About This Project

RIBA competition entry for a scheme to design the new village community hub in Sessay, North Yorkshire.

The proposal includes changing facilities for the local and visiting cricket teams, bar and lounge facilities, a bowls club bar and bowling green, local post office, and children’s library. Key to the success of the scheme was to include a new village hall which could be used for various business and social events, wedding ceremonies, and the local school drama productions.

The designed looked to utilise the local heritage of vernacular materials which combine to create a focal point within the village for residents and visitors alike. Its location on the site allowed for a striking built form to be omni-present around the hub of activity the new building was to envisage. The scheme also looked at creating a wildlife pond and reserve to the Eastern end of the site which could be used by visitors outside of match days.
